United Way of Central Illinois helps make money management easier and more accessible through our partnerships in the community. People can learn skills like how to manage credit, reduce debt, and build savings. Trained volunteers provide one-on-one financial coaching to build brighter futures for themselves and our community.

We help people stay safely housed by connecting them to short-term shelter, eviction prevention, and rent assistance through the 211 help line. We work with local partners to support individuals and families facing housing instability, and we're also helping more families take steps toward the long-term goal of homeownership.

Here's the facts:

  • From 2020-2024, there has been a 40% increase in fair market rent.
  • Black people are eight times more likely to experience homelessness than white people in Illinois.

United Way makes it easier for people to get the public benefits they're entitled to. Caring experts at 211 - the 24/7 resource supported by United Way connects thousands of people to public programs.
