ALICE Emergency Fund

The ALICE Emergency Fund provides one-time emergency financial assistance up to $1,500 to families who have recently faced a significant financial setback, such as a medical emergency, a divorce or death in the household, a temporary job loss or reduced hours through no fault of their own, or a major unexpected expense. The fund is designed to help cover urgent needs such as rent or mortgage payments to avoid eviction; car repairs so a parent can get to work or childcare costs, so employment is not lost.

All payments go directly to verified landlords, repair shops, or providers to ensure accountability and impact.

 

Criteria

Primary Resident of Sangamon or Menard County (for at least 180 days)

Currently Employed or Temporarily Unemployed (due to no fault of their own)

  Not receiving Rent / Mortgage assistance from other government, faith-based or nonprofit organizations

  Experienced a Significant Financial Hardship (within 180 days) such as:

• Reduction in Work Hours (equivalent to 30% of household income)

• Temporary Unemployment due to circumstances beyond the applicant's control

• Death of significant other contributing to household income

• Divorce from significant other

• Serious Injury / Medical Diagnosis

• Significant Increase in Expenses (equivalent to 30% of household income) such as the loss of primary vehicle required for work/school or loss of childcare required for work/school or unexpected medical expenses or funeral costs.
