Volunteer Spotlight: Damon Boatwright
For Damond Boatwright, President and CEO of Hospital Sisters Health Systems (HSHS), United Way's Day of Action has become a meaningful tradition. Now in his fourth year of volunteering, Damond says there's no better way to spend his Friday afternoon in October than by giving back to the community that has supported HSHS for more than 150 years.
Volunteering is both personal and purposeful for Damond. As a leader in healthcare and a local resident, he finds fulfillment in serving alongside others who share his commitment to improving lives. Through Day of Action, he enjoys connecting with fellow volunteers who are passionate about addressing local needs and strengthening their community.
The event also reflects HSHS's mission to reveal and embody Christ's healing love for all people through compassionate, high-quality care. Damond believes that mission extends far beyond the hospital walls.
"Volunteering represents the hands and feet of Jesus filling our neighborhoods with love and support," he said.
For Damond, Day of Action is a chance to see that mission in motion, through teamwork, compassion, and a shared sense of purpose. He says it's inspiring to watch his healthcare colleagues come together to serve in new ways, bringing the same dedication they show in their professional roles to the wider community.
He encourages anyone interested in volunteering to start with what they love. Whether it's caring for animals, supporting families, or helping a local organization that once made a difference in your life, there's a place for everyone to give back. United Way makes it easy to get started through its online volunteer platform.
Through his leadership and example, Damond continues to show how service brings people together. Thank you for strengthening the community you call home!
